Kinetic is Epicor’s ERP for manufacturers, specialised for discrete, make-to-order production, and available in the cloud, on-premises or as a hybrid1.

Best for: Discrete and make-to-order manufacturers that want production, planning and shop-floor systems from one vendor rather than a general ERP edition.

Not the right fit for: Distributors, contractors and service firms. Kinetic is built for manufacturers.

What it covers

Epicor lists forecasting, MRP, advanced planning and scheduling and sourcing; IoT-enabled MES and data collection on the plant floor; PLM; configure-price-quote and eCommerce; project management and advanced project accounting; and financials, with support for multiple companies, currencies and languages. Its industries include aerospace and defence, fabricated metals, industrial machinery, medical devices, and rubber and plastics1.

Epicor Prism is its AI offer for designing and deploying agents that operate within the ERP. Epicor Ascend uses AI-powered tools for ERP migrations, and Epicor says qualified businesses can go live in as little as 90 days, a vendor claim1.

How it compares with Acumatica

Acumatica sells a Manufacturing Edition on a shared core with its other editions2. Kinetic is a manufacturing system first. For a plant whose constraint is scheduling, shop-floor data or engineering change, that depth is the reason to move; for a company that mostly distributes, it is cost without benefit. Kinetic bundles are built from a platform core, a cloud package and concurrent users, so occasional users share licences rather than each needing one1.

Epicor’s headline ROI figures (270% ROI and a 20-month payback) come from a Forrester study commissioned by Epicor that combined four manufacturers into one composite organisation1. They describe a model, not a named customer.

Published evidence

No case studies with named customers are published.

Strengths and limits

Strengths

  • The deepest production and planning functionality in this guide, including MES and advanced planning and scheduling.
  • A choice of cloud, on-premises or hybrid deployment.
  • Bundles are built on concurrent users, so occasional users share licences.
  • Epicor Ascend uses AI tools for ERP migrations; Epicor says qualified businesses can go live in as little as 90 days.

Limits

  • Pricing is not published.
  • Its headline ROI figures come from a Forrester study commissioned by Epicor and describe a composite of four manufacturers, not a named customer.
  • A poor fit for companies whose main business is distribution, construction or services.

Choose another option if: Most of your revenue comes from distribution, construction or services rather than production.

Pricing

Not published. Bundles are priced by platform core, cloud package and concurrent users.

Questions to ask Epicor

  • Which bundle and how many concurrent users would our plant need?
  • Do we qualify for Epicor Ascend, and what does “as little as 90 days” assume?
  • Which Prism agents are available today, and what do they cost?
  • Can we see a plant of our size and type running Kinetic?
