Business Central is Microsoft’s ERP for small and midsize businesses, and the closest like-for-like replacement for Acumatica among the options that publish their prices12.
Best for: Acumatica customers standardised on Microsoft 365 that want a full ERP with published per-user prices and agents that work inside it.
Not the right fit for: Companies with many occasional users, where per-user pricing costs more than an unlimited-user licence.
What it covers
Microsoft lists financial management with consolidations and intercompany transactions, purchasing and order fulfilment, warehouse management with barcode scanning, projects with job costing, and reporting connected to Excel and Power BI. Manufacturing (bills of materials, assembly-to-order and production orders) and service management come with the Premium plan1.
Its agents are where it differs most from older versions. The Sales Order Agent converts email orders into quotes and sales orders, the Payables Agent captures, matches and routes invoices, and an Expense Agent handles receipts; custom agents are built in Copilot Studio1. The agents consume Copilot Credits, sold separately, and require an Azure subscription2.
How it compares with Acumatica
The licence is the main difference. Business Central charges $80 or $110 per full user a month, paid yearly, with $8 Team Members licences for limited access2. Acumatica does not charge per seat3. Both are sold through partners: Business Central exclusively through Microsoft’s partner network1.

Strengths and limits
Strengths
- Publishes per-user list prices in US dollars, which most ERP vendors in this guide do not.
- Copilot is included in Essentials, and the Sales Order Agent turns email orders into quotes and sales orders.
- Premium adds bills of materials, assembly-to-order and production orders for light manufacturing.
- Runs in 50+ languages and 157 countries, per Microsoft.
Limits
- Priced per user. Light users can be licensed as Team Members at $8 a month, with limited access.
- Agents use Copilot Credits sold separately and require an Azure subscription.
- Implementation is quoted by partners, and Microsoft notes that listed prices may differ from the actual list price in a given country.
Choose another option if: Most of your users only look up records occasionally, or you want to decide where the system is hosted.
Pricing
Published: Essentials $80, Premium $110 and Team Members $8 per user a month, paid yearly. Agents consume Copilot Credits, priced separately.
Questions to ask a Business Central partner
- How many of our users need full licences, and how many can be Team Members?
- What will the agents cost in Copilot Credits at our order volume?
- What will implementation and the first year of support cost, in writing?
- Which industry apps from the partner catalogue would we need?
